Bachelor of Dental Surgery
Among dentistry degrees, BDS is one of the most renowned and respected. India only offers one educational and professional dental surgery programme, the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).
Carrying the “Dr” suffix, it is the MBBS equivalent. In terms of medical education, it is the second option chosen by students following the MBBS programme. Dentures, dental issues, and surgery are topics covered in this course.

Dentists prevent, diagnose, and treat all oral and associated disorders. The Dentistry Council of India is the sole organisation that accredits dentistry programmes.

BDS Course Duration
Four academic years will be required for the undergraduate dental programme leading to the BDS degree. During that time, students will complete 240 teaching days and a one-year rotating internship at MRDC. The internship is necessary, and upon successful completion of the one-year internship, the BDS degree will be granted.
MBBS Eligibility criteria
An entrance exam is required of applicants who want to enrol in a BDS programme. There is an online application form available from the National Testing Agency. Candidates must take the NEET exam and submit their application by the deadline in order to be considered for admission to an undergraduate dental programme.
The computer exam is administered once a year. Meeting the minimum cutoff is one requirement for taking part in NEET counselling. Based on a candidate’s preference, rank, seat availability, and reservation requirements, seats are allotted.
Candidates need to fulfil specific requirements to be admitted to BDS courses offered by institutes/colleges.

The minimum age requirement is 17.
